Bruce Thompson
Best One Man Band Ever.. Probably
|
Weaned on the thriving ‘folk’ circuit of his native northeast, Bruce has been a unique comedy and musical entertainer for more than forty years. Even whilst training as a teacher he appeared on numerous TV and radio programmes in the folk field eventually developing his act for wider appeal. Appearances on ‘Opportunity Knocks’ and a ‘New Faces’ win led to a contract with Pye Records and a period as resident musician and contributor on Central TV’s ‘Tiswas’ working alongside Chris Tarrant and Lenny Henry for almost two years. Bruce was often seen as guest presenter of BBC TV’s ‘Play School’ and other television credits have included ‘The Two Ronnies’, ‘Little and Large’, ‘Zig and Zag’, ‘The Big Breakfast’ and ‘The Priory’ where he taught Zoe Ball to become possibly the best one-woman-band in the world! |
He has also appeared with Bruce Forsyth on ‘The Generation Game’ where contestants attempted to emulate his musical talents. Repeated on ‘The Best of The Generation Game’, Bruce Forsyth himself described the item as “One of the funniest games we’ve ever had!’
Bruce’s experience and skills make him the ideal TV studio warm-up-man. Two series of ‘Every Second Counts’ with Paul Daniels and four series of ‘Blankety Blank’ with Les Dawson had audiences enlivened by Bruce. He spent over four years touring as support to cult comedian Jethro, playing to capacity crowds in almost every major theatre and concert-hall in the country.
In 2003 he appeared with great success on ‘Today with Des and Mel’ and, in 2005, he
featured in a Kellogg’s TV ad, ’The New Variety Show’ for Sky TV and faced Anne Robinson on ‘The Weakest Link!’ In 2007 he was seen on ‘Let Me Entertain You’ and the ‘Tiswas Reunited’ television special. In 2008 he featured in the ITV documentary ‘When Britain First Had Talent’ and was part of a comedy team on BBC 2’s ‘Eggheads!’ Earlier this year he appeared with Chris Evans on ‘The One Show’ and is to be heard during BBC Radio Five Live’s coverage of the London Olympics.
